A shopping and dining destination, Escondido’s downtown has stroll-friendly streets with casual cafes, boutiques, art galleries, and an array of locally owned shops. It’s also where you’ll find the California Center for the Arts, North San Diego County’s cultural hub with a theater, visual arts museum, and a 1,523-seat concert hall that hosts world-class music performances. With a median age of about 35, Escondido has a high number of Millennials with young families who are served by the Escondido Union School District, which has over a half dozen well-rated elementary schools. Escondido also has over a dozen public parks, with greater green getaways along its borders; to the west, the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve offers around eleven miles of hiking through unspoiled nature, while to Escondido’s east the 3,201-acre Daley Ranch has over 25 miles of trails for hiking and biking amid shade trees, rolling hills, and ponds. With the I-15 highway cutting through town, Escondido is about a 25 minute drive to the Pacific Ocean and the sandy beaches of Carlsbad.
